How to file a claim:

Initiate the Claim: Call your insurance company if you were at fault, or the other driver's insurer if they were at fault. Filing through your own policy requires paying a deductible upfront, while claiming through the at-fault driver's policy avoids a deductible if liability is accepted.

Initial Intake: Provide basic accident details to the intake representative, who records the file details and routes them to an assigned claims adjuster.

Submit Details to the Adjuster: Provide the adjuster with photos, police reports, witness information, and evidence. Clarify logistics during this conversation, such as approved repair shops, rental car options, contact methods, and estimated timelines.

Investigation and Assessment: The adjuster evaluates liability and vehicle damage to determine repair authorization or total loss payout values (typically taking up to a week for the vehicle portion).

Follow-Up and Resolution: Maintain periodic check-ins with your agent or adjuster to monitor progress, address any delays, and ensure repairs or settlement payments are completed smoothly.

FAQ: What is auto liability insurance?

Auto liability insurance is money that pays for the other person's medical bills and car repairs if you cause a crash.

It does not pay to fix your own car or cover your own doctor bills—it only protects you from getting sued or forced to pay out of pocket when you damage someone else's property or hurt them.

How the Numbers Work

Insurance policies usually list liability limits using three numbers, such as 30/65/25 or 50/100/100:

  1. First Number (Injury per person): The maximum dollar amount the insurance pays for one single person's medical bills (e.g., up to $30,000).
  2. Second Number (Injury total per crash): The maximum total dollar amount the insurance pays for everyone's medical bills combined in that crash (e.g., up to $65,000).
  3. Third Number (Property damage): The maximum dollar amount the insurance pays to repair or replace the other person's vehicle or property (e.g., up to $25,000).                         https://xdreaminsurance.com//what-is-auto-liability/
